I wanted to remind everyone to check with their local city, parks and libraries for fun FREE things to do this summer. Many places offer free family entertainment during the summer, which is a great way to keep the kids entertained and not go broke!
We just got back from a free movie at a local park. It was amazing! There was a huge blow up screen where they played Kung Fu Panda…yeah it’s one we’ve seen a bunch of times, but this one is better because it’s outside!
On top of the Kung Fu Panda movie, there was freebies from the CW (television channel, if you don’t have it in your area), the kids got filmed to be television for commercials for the station, a clown gave out free balloon animals and a local hospital gave away free flashlights. We went early to get seats, brought some cheap pizza’s from Little Cesars and had a chest full of drinks. The kids played until the movie….actually through the movie too. It was a great time…for just the cost of pizza’s to take! Not too bad for a night out!
It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to keep the kids entertained during the summer months! Currently, one of my kids favorite things to do is go for bicycle rides in the evenings. The older two can ride for about four miles! The younger doesn’t last that long, but it’s still fun to go out and ride around as a family. We ride to various parks in our neighborhood, let the kids play for awhile and then ride back home. It wears them out and they really enjoy the time together.
Sometimes you forget about things you have available to you in your own area. Look up the city website and see if there is anything planned…if not, plan something with a few families to meet at the park for a picnic or something.
