A lot of people don’t realize that dogs can get the flu, just like people do!  I didn’t even know that until recently!  I always have my family get their flu shots, but I never thought about protecting our dogs!  Dog flu is just as real as human flu, and it is extremely contagious.  Nearly 100% of dogs who are newly exposed to the canine influenza virus will contract the disease.  So, if parents are taking the time to protect their families from the flu, it is equally important to get their four-legged family members vaccinated too.

Symptoms:

A dog that has acquired the dog flu typically will have a cough, runny nose and fever.   Some dogs will show no signs at all, while other cases could be extremely severe.

How is it spread?

Dog flue is spread by direct contact with respiratory secretions from an infected dog, by contact with contaminated objects, and by people who go between infected and non-infected dogs.  If a dog shows any of these signs, all surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected after exposure.

How to protect your precious pups…

You should contact your vet to see about getting your dog a vaccination.
