I love gingerbread men. Seriously, I love everything about them. I love eating them, I love looking at them….gingerbread men rock! I wanted to show you how to make a cute gingerbread man that you can keep….even though he looks yummy, don’t eat him! A cardboard gingerbread man is the perfect craft to do with your kids or by yourself. You can get as creative as you’d like!
- Cardboard
- Gingerbread man template (I used THIS one.)
- Brown ink pad with sponge (I didn’t have a sponge, so I used an old rag)
- White paint
- School glue
- Coarse white glitter
- Various paints or embellishments
- Scissors and/or X-ACTO knife
Carefully it out. My X-ACTO knife was too dull, so I ended up using scissors, but used the X-ACTO for the corners.
Use your sponge or rag (like I did) and rub a little bit of brown ink around the edges. This isn’t necessary, but gives your gingerbread man a more real look.
Using the end of my paint brush I created a line around the outside. I have trouble getting a perfectly straight line with a brush, but using the end of the brush worked perfectly!
Add your embellishments. I used puff paint to make the squiggle lines and glued some little buttons I had around the house.
Paint some glue onto the brown portions of your gingerbread man. Sprinkle glitter all over the glue. The course white glitter will give the look of sugar all over your gingerbread man.
Show off your cute little guy! He’s so cute! Give the kids each a base and let them create one of their own. You can poke a hole in the top and turn these into ornaments as well!

Oh I love it! I needed a last minute craft!
You should be the Crafty Ninja, too!

So very cute! Thank you for sharing! I love Christmas crafts that I can do with my son.
