Men are hard to make gifts for. I didn’t want something with a lot of sewing and I didn’t want it to be too difficult. My husband is a computer geek. We have computer parts all over the house. I wanted to figure out something fun to do with the extra parts that eventually get thrown away. I created the most amazing keychain and it only took minutes! Who knew some old RAM would make such an amazing gift!?!
Supplies:
- Old stick of RAM
- 2 pairs of pliers or wrenchs..something to hold onto each side of the RAM
- Jewelers Hole Punch OR a Dremel
- Extra fine sandpaper
- Keychain hardwear
Find your old stick of RAM and decide where you what area you want to use for your keychain. The smaller the area, the harder it is to break.
Using your two pairs of pliers, grasp the stick of RAM on each side and break in two pieces.
It will break much easier than you would expect. Try to do your best to make it a clean break.
Sand each side of your soon-to-be keychain. Make sure it is as smooth as possible.
Using your hole punch, push through the edge of your keychain. You want to make sure the hole is far enough in that it will not break easily, but not too far, making it difficult to put your keychain hardware on. You may luck out and have a piece that already has a hole and you can skip this part. I used 2 different part of the stick of RAM and one part had a hole already there!
Add your keychain hardware and there you go! Brand new keychain ready to go! Perfect for the computer geek on your list!
You can make about 4 keychains with just one stick of RAM. I hope this tutorial gave you a good idea for a gift for one of the men on your list. Please be sure to visit Amanda and Midwestern Moms to see her men’s gift idea, Dollar Bill Origami!

This is so cool! Guys are notoriously hard to make things for. My fiance is a massive computer geek too, I think he would really appreciate this!
Thank you for the tips.
