Glitter makes everything more fun, even play dough.  It is so easy to make at home!  Why wasn’t this around when I was a kid?  Here is the step-by-step instructions to make this amazing stuff!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 cup Salt
  • 2 Cups Water
  • 1 Tbs Oil
  • 1 tsp Cream of Tartar
  • Food Coloring
  • Glitter!!!!
Directions:
Place flour, salt, water, food coloring, oil and cream of tartar in a saucepan.  Prior to adding in the ingredients, I mixed the food coloring in with the water to make it easier to mix.

Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly.  The mixture will begin to harden and become play dough like.

Turn dough out onto counter top and allow to cool.  The dough should be cool enough to knead.  Be sure you don’t forget about it or it will begin to harden.  I accidentally did that and the outside began to turn white and crack.

Flatten out a bit and sprinkle glitter on the dough.  Knead to evenly distribute glitter throughout dough.  If you want more sparkle, add a little more glitter and knead again.   Remember, you can always add more but can not remove too much!

Give the dough to your child(ren) to play with and let their imaginations run wild!

I store my play dough in a zip lock bag, but you could also store it in an air tight jar if you want.  My kids have been playing with this dough for several days, for hours at time and it is still as soft as it was when I made it!  You may have a little glitter stray during play, but the majority of it stays in the dough itself.
