I love candles, but they get really expensive. I’d love to fill my entire house with pretty candles, but who can afford them? Not me! I decided to show you how to create some pretty, decorative candles yourself….and for a fraction of the cost! It is easier than you think!
I headed to Walmart to grab all the supplies I needed. It is nice that they carry the full line of Elmer’s products, which are perfect for this project! You can see my full shopping trip via Google+.
- Candle
- Glass vase to hold the candle
- X-ACTO Precision Scissors
- Craftbond All-Purpose Glue Stick
- Craftbond Clear Dual-Tip Glue
- Craftbond Permanent Scrapbooking Tape (double sided tape)
- Craftbond Sparkle Glue
- Fine Glitter
- Heat gun or hair dryer
- Pretty tissue paper
Using the Craftbond Permanent Scrapbooking Tape, carefully put a ring around the top of your vase. Sprinkle the tape with glitter.
Using your X-ACTO Precision Scissors, cut a piece of tissue paper big enough to cover your candle. You will appreciate how well these scissors cut when you are cutting the tissue paper! No tears at all!
Carefully place one end of tissue paper on your candle and wrap around. Gently press to adhere the glue. You don’t need a bunch of glue, just enough to hold it there for the next step.
Using your heat gun or blow dryer, heat the candle just enough to warm it. You will see the issue begin to almost melt into the candle. Don’t hold the heat gun in one place for too long of your candle will begin to melt and drip. Just run it across and area, turn, run across, turn. Keep going until your tissue paper isn’t showing at all anymore.
After your candle has completely cooled, use your Craftbond Sparkle Glue to add decoration to the candle. This gave a 3D effect that looked really neat with the snowflakes. When I finished this part, I realized that it needed a little extra, so I used the Craftbond Scrapbooking Tape and some glitter to create a band on the top of the candle.
After your glues have fully dried, put your candle inside the vase and enjoy! You can create this for any holiday! This project has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for #ElmersHoliday #gluenglitter #collectivebias #CBias

What an inexpensive holiday gift, and easy to make last-minute, too!
