I keep seeing people creating Pom Pom Wreaths and decided this would be perfect to create a Peppermint Wreath. Although it looks like a lot of work, since you are create the pom poms yourself, it doesn’t take as long as you’d think! I created this while watching TV for a few hours.
- 1 Skein Red Yarn
- 1 Skein White Yarn
- Wreath form (I created on with pipe insulation, I’ll show you how below!)
- Ribbon to hang and add a bow if you’d like.
Directions:
To create your wreath from the pipe insulation, decide how large you want your wreath to be, create a circle that large and cut. I wanted a 12 inch wreath for mine today.
Use tape to connect the ends. I would have used duct tape, but I was all out…so I used clear packing tape and it worked great.
Now to make your pom poms! Take one end of your yard and hold it over three fingers. To begin, hold in place with your thumb.
Wrap the yard around your fingers 50 times. Try to wrap snug, but not too tight or it will be tough to get off your fingers. Cut the yarn.
Cut a piece of yard about 4-6 inches long. Slide the yarn off your fingers and place on the smaller piece of yarn you just cut.
Tie each end of your yarn so it meets in the middle of your large yarn wrap. Tie as tightly as possible and then double knot.
Trim the strings all the way around so it is even on all sides. You have your first pom pom! Now…make a BUNCH more!
Tie the pom poms around the wreath to hold in place. I used a pattern to get the twist pattern. You will create rows using the following:red, white, white
white, red, white
white, white, red
then repeat from the top! Keep going around until the entire wreath base is covered!
Add a bow or other decorations if you’d like….but this isn’t a necessity. The wreath is cute just like it is!
