John Carter
In theaters March 9, 2012
Last week I was invited to watch John Carter at the Regal Cinemas here in Albuquerque. The previews looked action packed, so I decided to take my oldest son, Rob who is 11. I figured it was right up his alley. We arrived at the theater, took a seat, put on our 3D glasses and were ready to watch the show!
The beginning of the movie starts with a young man that was given his uncle’s estate. He finds a book that explains his uncle’s life and sits down to read it, cover to cover. He follows the story of his uncle, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) who is transplanted to Barsoom (Mars). Carter is immediately thrown into the middle of conflict. He quickly learns that he can not run on the planet but can jump incredibly high and far, along with having more strength than the inhabitants. He uses this to his advantage during his fights. By accident, fate or whatever else you want to call it, he is brought together with the stunning Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). Together they fight for the world and she helps him to see that the survival of Barsoom is in his hands.
My thoughts:
While I am not a big history buff and don’t normally go for the science fiction thing, I did enjoy John Carter. I have decided I want a Woola for myself and would gladly trade both my dogs for just one. My son really liked the movie and was trying to talk to me about it the entire time! While some of the special effects seemed like they could be a little fine-tuned, I thought the majority of it was done amazingly well. Some of the characters had a Star Wars type feel to them, which I think is what captured my son’s interest from the get-go! I know this is a movie that my husband will enjoy and the kids will want to watch it over and over when it comes to DVD.
