My daughter really wants to do well in math. She does decent, but it is a struggle for her. She has to really work at her math to figure out the answers, and if it is too hard for her to figure out, she shuts down. I think this is fairly common with kids, as my oldest used to do the same thing. When I try to help her with her math, she tells me they don’t learn it the “old fashioned way” and they only know the “new way” for math.
Math has changed that much that even adding and subtracting isn’t done the same way anymore.
I was asked to review Trickomatics and thought we were a perfect fit for it. It is designed for children 7-11. I have 11, 8 and 5. My five-year-old is probably at a 7-year-old level anyway, so they can all use it. Perfect!
I installed the program on the kids computer and told my daughter to play around with it for a little while. She sighed and said her math homework was already done, but I asked her to please just try it out. She worked on it for over an hour! She loves it.
I sat down with her to show her how to use the hints when she wasn’t sure how to answer a problem and it helped her so much. She was answering math questions that she never would have been able to before.
I showed my husband the program and how the half trick worked. He looked amazed and said he never would have thought to break it down like that before and it made it so easy.
I tried to tell my daughter to get off the computer, but she doesn’t want to leave the game. Well, okay, I guess a few more minutes will be okay this one time! 🙂 I will be checking her stats regularly to see how she is doing and improving. Hopefully after making it through all of the sections, math will be easier for her.
There is also an animated movie for the kids that is packed with different ways to easily answer math problems, without them even realizing they are doing math. I love when that happens!
Trickomatics contains a DVD of the animated Trickomatics movie as well as a CD-ROM containing the interactive technology-based program. Trickomatics is both PC and MAC compatible. It is designed for children aged 7-11 years old.
The Trickomatics program helps your child improve their math skills. The skills they help with are place value, mental math techniques, basic multiplication, advanced multiplication, problem solving, basic word problems and advanced word problems.
