Throughout the summers, the Catholic churches across Albuquerque hold Fiestas each weekend. Nearly every weekend throughout the summer gives a different church the ability to hold a Fiesta. These fiestas are a way for the parish to raise money. Fiestas give the community a fun, family-friendly environment to enjoy delicious food and amazing live entertainment.
The first weekend of Fiestas kicked off at San Felipe de Neri in Old Town on June 1-3.
My husband and I attended the Fiestas on Saturday afternoon. I hadn’t been to the Fiestas for many, many years and my husband hadn’t ever been. The plaza was packed with people! So many people brought their own chairs and filled the grass areas to enjoy the entertainment. Surrounding the outside of the plaza were food booths. The food was AmAzInG! Tortilla burgers, funnel cake, curly fries, frito pie, Indian Tacos and so.much.more.
There was a variety of entertainment while we were there, from dancers to bands. As it got later into the night, the crowd really began to get into the entertainment. We were able to watch A.J. Martinez, Tanya Griego, Matt Duran, Taralynn Martinez, and Gonzalo perform. It was amazing.
The best part of the entertainment is seeing the talented local artists doing what they love and the entire crowd having fun. You saw everyone from toddlers to seniors up dancing. It is pretty cute to see an abuelita up shaking a tail feather.
There are going to be Fiestas all summer long…and I plan on making out to as many as I can. Besides being so much fun, it is a great way to give back to the churches and help them raise money. Each church puts their own spin on their Fiesta. This means, each week you can taste different types of food and enjoy different entertainment.
The next Fiesta is at St. Charles on Coal and University, June 9 & 10. If you click the above picture, you can see the full line up of entertainment. Come on out, check it out! The entertainment will be phenomenal, thanks to my good friend Luis at Elite Music Productions who has spent a lot of time making sure all of the artists would be sure to please the audience!
We will be out there next Saturday to dance the night away! I can’t wait to see the Elite Allstar Band! My daughter turns 9 and is so excited to spend the day at the Fiestas and see Tanya Griego (her favorite artist) performing.
