Being a mother of three children, I know the feeling of really wanting to push your children to do their best and not letting anything stand in the way of your children’s dreams. I had the privelage of being a part of a conference call with Ondina Lopez, who has done everything within her power to help her children reach their goal of being Olympic champions! It was interesting and inspiring to hear the story of her family and how much they did to ensure her children were able to pursue their dreams!

Early on, one thing that really hit me was the fact that the reason they children even started in Taekwondo was because her husband was a fan of martial arts. They enrolled the children in a martial arts class and their children soon learned to love the sport. This really hit home because there are many things I enjoy and I want my children to try. Many times they just say no and I let it be without having them actually try it out. What if I actually enrolled them and asked them just to try it out…and they loved it?! I could have an Olympic Champion under my roof and not even know it!

It also hit home when she said that they did what they had to do to financially support the sport. They only had one car, they never ate out (which worked to also keep them very healthy). I go out of my way to make things happen for my children as well. We are getting ready to start a new school year. My son has decided he wants to be in Football and my daughter wants to join Cheerleading. This is not something that is within our budget….but I don’t want to say no. I will make sure it happens, regardless of what I have to do to come up with extra money to pay for their fees. It is something you do as a mother.
