I am in awe of all of the new and fun nail polish techniques I am finding across the web.  Here is a super simple one you can recreate at home.  You only need simple tools to recreate this sponge gradient nail polish.

Supplies:

  • Several colors of nailpolish (I use 2-3 normally)
  • Makeup sponge
  • Scissors
  • Nail polish remover
  • Q-Tips

Cut your make up sponge into a piece that will just cover the nail.  It can be a little smaller to help keep the nail polish off your skin (I learned this while taking the pictures for this tutorial).

Paint stripes of nail polish on the sponge.  You want to be sure you use a good amount of polish on each stripe.  You will need to add more polish after you stamp each nail.  I find it is easier to keep the bottles of polish open during the entire process….it just saves on time.

Press the sponge onto the nail then blot over a few times.  You will see the colors begin to blend together.  As you can see in this picture, the sponge I used was too big for my daughters little nails…we had a lot of clean up!  When you are done with all your nails, use your Q-Tips and nail polish remover to clean up the skin around the nails.

After the  colors are dry, apply a coat of clear and you are set!  Play around with different color combinations to see what you can come up with!
