When sports take over…..

My house is HUGE fans of football.  Honestly, I don’t care very much.  I can watch a game, I pretty much know what’s going on, but it doesn’t matter if we win/lose.  I know this isn’t the case for everyone.  Some people get really upset when their team loses.  Being that New Mexico doesn’t even have a professional team, I honestly don’t care if we win/lose.  I am more emotionally attached to the local teams.  I don’t like to see our UNM Lobos lose….or even the New Mexico Stars.  We attended as many of the New Mexico Mustangs Hockey games when they were here.  Live sports are fun, but even then, if we lose it isn’t a huge deal to me.

My husband is a huge Broncos fan.  I, out of support am also a Broncos fan.  I have shirts and jerseys…I’ve even been known to paint my nails blue and orange for game day.  This isn’t because I really care about the game, but more about being supportive and just having fun with the game.  The next time we go to a Lobos game, I want to chalk my hair with red highlights in support.  It’s fun!

Why I’m even bringing this up….

Every Sunday my Facebook timeline and Twitter stream is filled with trash talking.  It’s fun.  I get that.  I like to talk a little trash when our Broncos are beating on a friend’s team.  It’s all in fun and it’s all a part of the game, as far as I’m concerned.

Today the Broncos were spanking the Oakland Raiders.  Raiders fans have been running their mouths on Facebook all week.  That’s fine.  I haven’t said a word.  When the game started, everything changed.  Broncos fans came out of the woodwork.  It’s fun.  The Raiders fans stayed quiet.  When I saw one of my “friends” post something about Manning being a bad word, I had to comment on it.  My husband laughed and said, you should reply and say, “Manning all day, baby!”  I thought it was funny, and I did it.  It was all in fun.  Like I’ve said before, honestly, it isn’t a huge deal to me.  Within a few minutes I see a response saying that they hadn’t heard from me in a long time and it was time they cleaned their friends list.  Before I could reply, I was unfriended.  Possibly blocked, I really don’t know, didn’t spend that much time checking.

Really?!?

I made a joke and you are going to unfriend me?!  Well, if we hadn’t spoken in a long time, I guess it doesn’t really matter anyway.  I just think it was a low move to reply to me and then delete me before I could say anything in return.  You got the last word.  Be proud of that.  I will continue on and know that I still don’t care about football.

This situation isn’t an isolated case.  It happens all the time.  This just happened directly to me today, so it brought on the post.  This happens all the time when people have rival sports teams.  It isn’t like YOU are playing on the team…why are you SO emotionally evolved?!

  1. I like watching football it’s all fun and if your team wins you get excited but if they loose its no big deal. I can’t believe they unfriended you I guess they did you a favor since they weren’t a friend at all. :(

    • Right?!? It’s something that I’ve seen happen more than once, which is why I mentioned it here. It bothers me more that she unfriended me over the game than just unfriending me to do it. I mean, if you don’t want to see my updates or keep in touch, my all means, unfriend me….but not over a comment when your Raiders are losing. :/

Gosh, that is ridiculous. People take sports too seriously, and the average sports fan, can be down right idiotic. I am like you, I don’t watch sports much, just stay supportive to my husband. I really wish sports fans could put as much time, energy, and support that they give towards their team, to the condition and the situation of this collapsing country of ours.

  3. Wow, that is Ridiculous! Sports are supposed to be a fun outlet. I can’t believe how crazy people can get. Does it really matter who wins or loses a silly game?? I think there are bigger things to worry about these days. Sports are like movies to me – entertainment and a time to de-stress, not get worked up! Sorry you had to go through that. :( Its not you!

    • :) Thanks! I am more upset that she won’t admit she unfriended me for the comment about Manning. It was right after that she deleted me, but said that wasn’t the reason. Just admit you got upset. I will think you’re crazy for getting so worked up for a game and we can go about our business. :)
