You want to name your baby what?!?!

While I was pregnant with my oldest, his dad had some crazy ideas on what he wanted to name him.  His first choice was Versace.  Yes, I know….Versace!  Like the designer.  He wanted to name our son Versace.  I told him it was a horrible idea and I refused to let that happen.  Every time he asked a friend or family member they told him they liked the name.  I think they were scared to tell him the truth.  I told him if he tried to pull that at the hospital I would call security and tell them there was a stranger in my room and they needed to remove him.  We agreed on naming him after his grandfather, Robert.  I was okay with that.  It wasn’t as…uuummmm…unique as Versace, but I liked it.  Robby seemed like the perfect name to call him.  He was Robby before he was born (but would DIE if I called him that in public now that he is older).

When I was pregnant with my daughter, things didn’t get any easier.  At least he didn’t want to name her after a designer, but we couldn’t decide on a name for the longest time.  I wanted Serena, he refused.  I went through old year books to look for names and came across Kylie and he liked it.  Woah.  Really?  He liked a name that I suggested?!?!

I recently found a Belly Ballot that allows you to ask your friends and family to vote for names on Facebook and Twitter.  How perfect is that!?!  Even if they are nervous to tell someone to their face that the name is horrid, you can easily vote!

With my youngest we weren’t sure what to name him.  Before we knew if he was a boy or girl, we began picking names.  I wanted something with a “K” if he was a girl because my daughter’s name is Kylie.  We ended up deciding if I was having a girl, her name would be Isis Amaya.   After one ultrasound, we found out we were having a boy.  Back to the drawing board.  We couldn’t decide on a name for a boy.  We went round and round and round.  We decided on Diego, it just seemed to fit.  Then we had to decide on a middle name.  What goes with Diego?!?!  A ballot would have been nice to help us decide.  Diego Antonio was what we ended up with and it seems to fit him perfectly.

Picking a baby name is one of the hardest things to do.  How did you pick your child’s name?  Did you argue over names?

  1. My husband is a big fan of the name Brock, I, however am not, I was even more against it when he pushed the matter further and said that he would want to name a boy Brock Lee…so he could say eat your broccoli Brock Lee…he lost all naming privileges after that! ;)

  2. Yes, parents do find the most creative name to name their babies. Sometime it is great and sometime not so great. But overall, just remember that kids do get tease for their names and parents should take that into considerate.

  3. I’ve always loved the name Versace! What big shoes to fill though LOL! A few others I like were Rutherford and Maximillian.
