DisneyOzEvent Bloggers

This past week, I was lucky enough to attend the world premiere of Oz The Great and Powerful with a really fun groups of bloggers. This was something completely different for me, since I don’t normally dress up that much and there aren’t any events like that here in New Mexico.  The experience, from the time I received the email until the moment I slipped into bed after a day of walking the “red” carpet, was incredibly amazing and one I will never forget.

Before I could even think about what it would be like on the yellow brick carpet I had to do a lot of planning.  There is a lot to get ready for such an exciting event.  I had to find a dress, shoes, how to do my hair, nails, makeup….oh the choices!

redcarpetdress_disneyozevent I headed to the mall almost immediately to try to find a dress.  That was my biggest obstacle.  I mean, it’s the red carpet, the dress HAS to be amazing, right?  I was walking by a cute little trendy shop and saw this dress in the window.  I stopped what I was doing and had to try it on.  It felt amazing and fit perfectly.  It was the first dress I saw, the first dress I tried on and it was mine.  Can you believe it was only $30! Super cute, perfect and affordable!

A few days later I started to second guess and went out dress shopping again.  I actually bought a different dress.  I ended up returning the second dress though.  This one was meant to be.

As far as shoes, I knew I wanted sparkly heels, but that’s all I knew.  I looked at a few places but fell in love with these from Burlington.  They weren’t as high as I normally would wear, but I thought that was a good thing since I wasn’t sure how much I’d be on my feet.  The price was perfect, too!  $20 for shoes covered in glitter and rhinestones…perfect for me!

As it got closer to me leaving, I realized that I hadn’t even thought of jewelry.  Oh my!  I didn’t know what to get because, honestly I’m horrible with accessories.  I was at Walmart and saw some sparkly jewelry that caught my eye and found this cute necklace and earring set for $10!

So my entire red carpet attire: dress $30, shoes $20, jewelry $10 – total cost, only $60!

hair

The week prior to flying out, I had to get my hair red carpet ready.  I had found some photos on Pinterest that I loved, so I showed them to Ebonie at Billiant Hair Studio to see if she could work some magic on my crazy mess of hair.  I know that Ebonie always leaves my hair looking amazing, so I didn’t even ask what she was doing, I just told her to make it look good.  She didn’t disappoint.  She lightened it up, added some highlights and trimmed a few places….my hair was ready!

The night of the premiere I decided I needed to do a little something more than just leaving it down like I always do. I added a little poof in the front.  It seemed to work with the makeup and dress.

To get ready for my makeup, I had a 2 hour facetime chat with the amazing Paula from Glamorous Mommyhood.  She walked me through which colors to use where, which brushes to use and how to get it all to stay in place.

That night I put all those tips to use and put on some fierce makeup….then helped my friend Jennifer get all glamorous for our exciting walk.  You see our fierce look in this pic?  LOL!  Just kidding, I have no idea what we were thinking, but we were having fun.  I used the Theordora palette and Jen used the Glinda palette from Urban Decay.

We were all ready go!

We all headed down to meet up and load the vans to get to Hollywood Blvd.

Walking down Hollywood Blvd. was really something else.  There were so many people.  All I kept thinking to myself was, who does this?  Wow.  I never thought I would be!  We could see the Oz balloon in the air.  As we neared El Capitan Theatre you could see cameras flashing all over the place and people screaming at the stars.  I saw them do that on television but it is so much different hearing it in real life.  People were screaming “Michelle!!! MICHELLE!!! Michelle!!!” while they waved pictures of her.  Completely crazy!

So the carpet wasn’t actually red, it was green with a “yellow brick road” down the middle.  I didn’t walk the yellow, but more behind that.  The stars were being hounded on the yellow…..being blinded by a million cameras.

photobomb_disneyozeventThere are several pictures and videos floating around that show me behind the stars.  I guess I was photo bombing Michelle Williams without even knowing it.  :)  There were so many cameras around, who would even know if you getting in a shot.

We were rushed down the carpet pretty quickly.  Before I even realized I was at the end and didn’t get nearly as many photos as I would have liked.  It was a little crazy, but so much fun.

We went into the theater, grabbed some popcorn and a Coke then went to our seats.  The popcorn was in really cute Oz cups that I wish I would have held onto….but I left it at my seat. Darn it!

After the movie, we loaded shuttles and headed to Lure Nightclub for the after party.  Most of the cast was up in a bar area I wasn’t able to go to, but I did get to meet with Joey King (plays China Girl) and spotted several other celebrities here and there.  It was so much fun!
