A pop of color to help your creativity #LowesCreator #Ad

When we moved into our new home, I had an office for the first time.  I wasn’t sure what to do with the space…okay, I’m still working on it….but I knew I wanted something bright and fun and completely me.  This is one room that I don’t have to worry about what others in the family will think because the entire room is for MY creativity.

I picked up a cute little desk at a second hand store and wasn’t sure what to do with it.  I liked the desk itself, but it was pretty boring and needed some work to look good.  It was $20 so I took it and figured it would be a good project.

I brought the desk home and stared at it for a while…until I knew exactly what colors I wanted to do in my office.  My challenge for the month from the Lowe’s Creative Ideas team was to incorporate PANTONE Universe’s Color of the Year, Emerald Green.  I wasn’t sure if I’d like Emerald green in my office, but figured it was worth a shot.  When I thought about Emerald Green, I pictured a dark grass green, but after stopping by Lowe’s and picking up a can, I found it isn’t anything close to what I was picturing.  It was more of a lighter, almost teal type green.  I was in love.  It was PERFECT for my office.

I took the drawers out of the desk and sanded everything down to make sure there wasn’t any varnish left to keep the paint from sticking.  A key to remember here is cleaning off the wood very well after sanding or the paint may come off…..so use a rag and wipe it down well!

After it was sanded and cleaned, I painted on several layers of the Lowe’s Valspar Signature paint.  Several light layers are always better than a thick layer, you don’t want the paint to run!  Paint a layer.  Let it dry.  Paint a second layer.  Let it dry.  Assess and paint again, if need be.

While I loved the green on the desk, I wanted it to pop a little more.  I had found a super cute pink desk lamp while I was walking around Lowe’s with my paint and wanted to incorporate that as well…..so…….I painted the insides and sides of each drawer with Frosted Berry colored Valspar Signature paint.

The color combo was perfect and screams my style when I look at it.  I mixed in a little of my animal print (leopard pen holder) and my office feels so ME.  I’m working on the rest of my office, but for now, my desk is perfect and the color is bright, happy and cheerful.

I love the idea of how some fresh paint can bring back to life an old piece of furniture :)

I painted a desk a similar color and love it, too. It brings such a fresh feel to everything and I love the way you combined it with the pink – one of my favorite combinations!

This is a great idea, I did this with DrawItpaint so that i can write down any ideas I had or scribble when i was bored of studying.

I love comments!
