Don’t forget your lunch!
I remind my kids every morning not to forget their lunches, because it’s been known to happen once or twice in the past. I remind them of their homework…but this morning forgot to remind my 7th grader to grab his agenda. I have THREE kids to get up and out the door in the morning, I can’t possibly remind them of everything. I am in charge of making lunch and making sure they are dressed and clean. You’d think at 12 years old he’d be able to remember a few basic items.
Not this morning.
About 10 minutes after the bus pulled away I saw his agenda sitting on the kitchen counter. I took a picture of it and text it over to him. I figured he’d learn his lesson and remember his agenda going forward.
I walked the other kids to the bus stop and got a call from the school.
I need my agenda.
Oh, would you like it to take it to you? I think you need to learn your lesson to not forget it.
MOM, I NEED it!
Okay, I’ll take it to you, but it will cost you $1 of your allowance this week.
It’s your decision, either take the consequences from school for not having it or pay $1 of your allowance and I’ll take it to you.
Ugh! Fine, just bring it.
Okay, I’ll take it now. I love you!
I had been walking with the neighbors who then asked if I was going to actually charge him to take it to the school. I said of course. He needs to learn responsibility. He had the choice to either go without it or pay a fine for not having it. He opted for the latter. My neighbor looked at me like I was the meanest mom on Earth.
What would you have you done if that was your child who forgot their agenda? Would you just take it to them or would you do something to try to teach them a lesson?
